The English school year runs from 1 September to 31 August. The year in which a student should be is determined by the age on 31 August of the current school year. The table below shows the years, the equivalent ages, and the names of the different stages of English education.
International students in English schools are usually at least a year behind English students in the same year, depending on when they start education in England.
